Holy retro!
What a time warp! From the 80's, 90's and early 2000's, all I can say is, I am grateful these people had their VCR's recording. In the videos below, you'll see TV ads that appeared regularly on Capital Region airwaves decades ago, including a young Mike Tyson for a local electronics store.
How many of these do you remember?
CLIFTON COUNTRY MALL
Now known as Clifton Park Center, this commercial from 1992 is clearly (or unclearly) pre-hi-def
COHOES DEPARTMENT STORE
Yes, fashion was their thing. They had a number of locations, including a long run at Crossgates Mall. The space they occupied is now Burlington Coat Factory. Here's an ad circa the early 2000's.
WORLD TRADE ELECTRONICS
If you wanted a sports celebrity in the 1980's, Mike Tyson was probably the biggest name you could get. World Trade Electronics on Central Avenue had the fighter cut a commercial touting their color TV's, VCR's and video cameras in 1986.
ALBANY PUBLIC MARKET
In the early 1980's, there was Price Chopper, Grand Union and Albany Public Market. They were the three big grocery chains in the Capital Region. Albany Public made it to the mid 1980's before closing all their stores. Check out these deals and a catchy jingle too.
DUANE'S TOYLAND
Cabbage Patch Dolls, Atari gaming systems, and Teddy Ruxpin. If any of those were on your birthday or Christmas list, there's a good chance it came from Duane's Toyland on Central Ave.
