Culvert Replacement to Close Route 29 in Schuylerville

The closure, slated to begin August 26th, will close Route 29 to all traffic just before the Hudson River bridge.

If you take NY State Route 29 to cross between Saratoga County into Washington County, a detour is coming your way later this month in the Village of Schuylerville.

The New York State Department of Transportation announces that Route 29 will be shut down starting Monday, August 26th at 5pm so crews can begin replacement of a culvert that carries the state highway, designated as Ferry Street, over the Schuylerville Basin in the Village of Schuylerville.

The closure will be between Canal Street and Reds Road, and will be to all traffic. However, the closure will not impact the bridge carrying Route 29 over the Hudson River, and the impact of your detour will depend on the type of vehicle.

There will be signed detours for both passenger vehicles and truck traffic, with passenger vehicles being diverted only a couple blocks north to Saratoga Street and then east to Reds Street within the village before connecting back with Ferry Street at Fort Hardy Park.   However, truck traffic will be signed up Route 32 through Gansevoort, then onto Route 197 East in Reynolds Corners, and then south onto U.S. Route 4 in the Village of Fort Edward before turning off just before the Hudson River bridge onto County Route 113 in Thomson.

The project is expected to last 3 weeks, starting Monday, August 26th at 5pm.  Originally NYSDOT announced the project to begin on Friday, August 16th, but delayed the start 10 days as the original project timeline would conflict with the nearby Washington County Fair, running Monday, August 19th through Sunday, August 25th just across the river in Easton.  The fair brings an increased volume of traffic as fairgoers from Saratoga County takes Route 29 to cross the Hudson River into Washington County.

The 3 weeks is subject to weather conditions and other delays that may pop up as crews work on the culvert replacement.
