It took a Hail Mary to secure the victory for CBA Syracuse.

It was a battle of the CBA's this past Saturday in Syracuse for the Class AA football state championship. CBA of Albany took on CBA of Syracuse and when all was said and done, it took a Hail Mary with the clock running out for the Syracuse "Brothers" to secure the win and deny the Albany "Brothers" their 1st ever state title.

CBA of Syracuse was down 40-35 with just seconds left to play when quarterback Brayden Smith fired a pass from the CBA Albany's 35 yard line into the end zone. Thankfully for Smith, Darien Williams was there to make the catch and lock down the 41-40 victory, giving CBA Syracuse their 2nd straight state title.

CBA Albany's Head Coach Bob Burns told New10 ABC -

“There’s a lot of “shoulda, woulda, coulda’s,” but I’m not down on my kids; there’s no way,”

“They played their hearts out. [CBA Syracuse] is bigger than us. I mean, they got Division I kids all over the place, and I feel like we outplayed ’em. We just didn’t make the plays when we needed to.”

While Coach Burns says that for him "it doesn't matter" about the loss, he does feel for the graduating Seniors on his team. Telling News10 ABC -

“But this senior group that’s done so much for this program, and done so much for me and the development of all these [young] guys – you just feel for them, because it’s just so tough.”

The Albany CBA team had a stellar season, outside of it ending on a sour note. The Brothers finished with a 13-1 record.
